Mariposa caterpillars album.

These fat and hungry  caterpillars can wreck havoc on gardens, we suggest to plant sacrificial plants for them to gorge on on their growing season. Here is an album of photos of these caterpillars which are not allergenic to skin and have false eyes to scare predators.

This may be the last album with my ES30. I gave it to my elder brother so he can start shooting and before we invest in a full dslr. The teflon seals of the lens got out of the camera and there are dark splotches already on the resulting photos. but they may not be noticeable in non-magnified setting.

How many photos can you shoot with your es30 camera?

Here is a table based on the actual settings menu display.

Values were obtained from freshly camera formatted SDHC cards. I am wondering why the table values changed during the interchanging of card capacities.

My personal preference is 10M settings.

A camera bag for P100.00

Here is a camera bag I bought OUTSIDE of CDR-king for only P100.00. You can buy it in the third floor of the Commercial station besides the Quezon Avenue MRT station. My CDRKing bag was already torn and it has only one big space to put a camera and an inside packet for SD cards. I think I got it for more than P200.00

Contrast this with my new camera bag, it has separate compartments for the point and shoot Samsung ES30 camera, with separate compartments for battery and SD/SDHC cards.

Worth the cheap price of P100.00!

Of course you be careful that your bag zippers are closed when travelling! They are opened in the photo so you can see the different compartments.

A compatible SDHC card for the ES30 camera.

I just bought today at CDRKing an 6 Gbytes Kingmax SDHC(Secure Digital High Capacity) card for 680 pesos. So far no problems, but we will report any problems encountered with this card in the future. Note that CDRKing sells BRANDED sd cards now!

The camera came with a Samsung 2Gbytes card, but with my usage patterns, can store only around 1000 photos.

Video!: A roaring Mambucal spring under heavy rains.

Mambucal Springs

Mambucal Falls is one of those rare resorts which are managed by provincial governments. Negros Occidental boasts a resort featuring natural water springs, a bat sanctuary, lodges, a boating lake, and trekking.

I am always fascinated with watching the city lights under the plane at night. This is under 5 minutes of video approaching and landing at Manila.

New albums taken with the ES30

We went to the the mountains of Salvador Benedicto town and have created two Facebook albums from it. Here is the link to the first album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1818184228688.101217.1662608581&l=bfb87c1fe8

and here is the second:

second album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1819861870628.101296.1662608581&l=685139676e

I still like my eS30 for its extreme portability. I can carry it in my pants pocket even! Compare that with a bulky dlsr. But I will indeed buy a dslr someday.

Who said you cannot take Black and White photos directly?

Not us, when we first googled for Black and White photography for ES 30, we were disappointed with the standard answer at the following reference:
http://answers.argos.co.uk/answers/1493-en_gb/product/5594865/questions.htm?sort=recentq

has it got a function for black and white pictures

Answer(s)
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
No, I am sorry to say this camera does not have a black and white setting.
Thank you for using Question and Answer.

Before shooting, set the camera in program mode. Then click on Menu/Shooting/Photo Style Selector/CL for classic or B&W mode. To see the effects, lets take photos of book cover (spine side) edges. The following photos taken without a tripod illustrates the creative possibilities of this inexpensive camera.

Here is normal mode.

Black and white photos and other special effects from color photos with the ES30

You can get Black and White photo effect with the ES30 even if the original was in color, using its simple photo editing features. Here we provide a flower photo and the several built-in effects. If these do not satisfy you, you can try your own effects by adjusting the RGB values. Fisheye, distortions are not available which is so unfortunate!

In the next post, we will show that you can shoot directly Black and white photos, if that is your preference, and without hassles.

Burst or continuous shooting mode in Samsung ES30 camera

I have gone through the manuals of the Samsung ES30 but this escaped me for some reason, perhapd due to not actually testing the features. Even now, googling for Samsung ES30 "continuous or burst mode" does not give us a direct link to the reference!

A gentle reader, Ashutosh Agarwal, pointed out to me the relevant manual pages and I am surprised by the capabilities of the cheap ES30. I bought mine for around 5,000 pesos at the Cubao branch of Picture City.

Basically, the camera will automatically take pictures as long as you depress the shutter until perhaps limited by the camera memory card capacity. To try this out, select Menu/Shooting/Drive.
You will be given the following choices (the descriptive text are from the camera screen itself!):

  1. Single - Take on photo for each shutter press
  2. Continuous- take photos as long as the shutter button is pressed (up to available memory).
  3. Motion Capture-continuously take photos at 5 or more photos per second( photo size will be fixed)
  4. AEB-Take three consecutive photos with varying exposure values.

Here are some photos taken with continuous mode at SM Bacolod City. I recall only two shots per shutter press.

Be sure to have fresh batteries when you are in burst mode. The cycle time, the time it takes for the camera to be ready for the next shot will be longer if the batteries have only a little juice left.

We wonder why Samsung did not offer Shutter|Aperture priority settings. If they did, the camera would appeal to even professional cameras as an auxiliary camera.

We will post more and illustrative photos to go with it in the future if we have the time.

Are you spending too much on batteries?

How often do you use your ES30 camera? Dont go overboard on buying non-rechargeable lithium high capacity batteries. They are quite expensive, though the camera can take a large number of shots before they lose charge. Instead, it might be better to buy high capacity NiMH batteries like the Sanyo Eneloop batteries. Buy four, using two as spare. And turn off the camera if you consciously decide not to shoot for long periods of time. Remove batteries from camera when not in use. Corroded battery terminals due to leaking batteries are the number one source of unusable electronic equipment.

Night photo capabilties of ES30

Here is one photo from my publicly accessible Baguio album

If there is something I could learn from this, it is that we have to use a tripod when doing low light photographic work!

Accidental formatting of SD card.

Nuts, I accidentally formatted my sd card of my
Samsung ES30 camera. The highlighting of choices is somewhat perplexing, instead of one bright/dark current choice, the camera displays two contrasting Yes and No choices leading to my error.

Gone are the photos of my Baguio quick vacation! Luckily my Nokia C3 though only a 2Meg pixel camera has some of the vacation photos. I will upload them soonest, lest accidents are waiting to happen!
