Who said you cannot take Black and White photos directly?

Not us, when we first googled for Black and White photography for ES 30, we were disappointed with the standard answer at the following reference:

Answer(s)
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
No, I am sorry to say this camera does not have a black and white setting.
Thank you for using Question and Answer.

Before shooting, set the camera in program mode. Then click on Menu/Shooting/Photo Style Selector/CL for classic or B&W mode. To see the effects, lets take photos of book cover (spine side) edges. The following photos taken without a tripod illustrates the creative possibilities of this inexpensive camera.

Here is normal mode.

Black and white photos and other special effects from color photos with the ES30

You can get Black and White photo effect with the ES30 even if the original was in color, using its simple photo editing features. Here we provide a flower photo and the several built-in effects. If these do not satisfy you, you can try your own effects by adjusting the RGB values. Fisheye, distortions are not available which is so unfortunate!

In the next post, we will show that you can shoot directly Black and white photos, if that is your preference, and without hassles.

Burst or continuous shooting mode in Samsung ES30 camera

I have gone through the manuals of the Samsung ES30 but this escaped me for some reason, perhapd due to not actually testing the features. Even now, googling for Samsung ES30 "continuous or burst mode" does not give us a direct link to the reference!

A gentle reader, Ashutosh Agarwal, pointed out to me the relevant manual pages and I am surprised by the capabilities of the cheap ES30. I bought mine for around 5,000 pesos at the Cubao branch of Picture City.

Basically, the camera will automatically take pictures as long as you depress the shutter until perhaps limited by the camera memory card capacity. To try this out, select Menu/Shooting/Drive.
You will be given the following choices (the descriptive text are from the camera screen itself!):

  1. Single - Take on photo for each shutter press
  2. Continuous- take photos as long as the shutter button is pressed (up to available memory).
  3. Motion Capture-continuously take photos at 5 or more photos per second( photo size will be fixed)
  4. AEB-Take three consecutive photos with varying exposure values.

Here are some photos taken with continuous mode at SM Bacolod City. I recall only two shots per shutter press.

Be sure to have fresh batteries when you are in burst mode. The cycle time, the time it takes for the camera to be ready for the next shot will be longer if the batteries have only a little juice left.
