Quick Reference

  • Where is the official quide?
  • It is recommended that the new owner reads the Samsung User Manual. In fact, it is chock-full of ideas which we will expound further in our blog.
  • How do I turn off/on the flash?
  • The following will work in the programmed shooting mode but not in Smart Auto mode!
    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. Press the flash symbol of the main button.
    3. You will see Off|Red Eye Fix|Slow Sync|Fill In|Red Eye|Auto.

  • How do I save my photo files to the computer?
  • Use the usb cable provided. Windows and Linux should be able to treat the cameraƛ sd card as a mounted file system. For example in Ubuntu, the F-spot photo manager automatically comes alive. The photos in the SD card appears in the directory /media/NO_NAME/DCIM/100Photo/.
  • How do I restore (reset) the factory setttings?
    Goto Menu/Settings/Reset. Select YES.

  • What batteries do I use with the ES30 camera?

  • The ES30 uses AA sized batteries. Use either non-rechargeable alkaline or rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-Mh) batteries. I use Eneloop(Sanyo) brand. Your mileage may vary.

Bring spare batteries if you plan on extended shooting. You should carry a belt bag.

I also tried non-rechargeable Lithium Eveready but they are quite expensive! But you can take a lot of photos.

  • Is there a Black and White setting in the camera?

  • You can get a black and white effect either in shooting or in post-editing mode under program control.

    In taking photos, choose Menu/Shooting/Photo Sytle Selector/CL (classic B & W) mode.
In editing photos, choose Menu/Photo Sytle Selector/CL (classic B & W) mode. Then press the Ok button. The camera automatically saves the modified image! Clever.
